Trailer released for new Netflix drama filmed in Liverpool

The trailer for a new Netflix drama filmed in Liverpool has been released.

The Irregulars, a supernatural crime drama, was filmed in the city last year and follows a group of misfit investigators in Victorian London.

Camera crews were spotted in the city last year with several locations including the city centre and Sefton Park Palm House expected to feature in the first series.

Filming was temporarily disrupted in January 2020 when a cast member was injured on set on Liverpool’s Ormond Street.

Created by producer Tom Bidwell, the eight episode series is scheduled for a Netflix premiere on Friday, March 26.

The British crime drama was developed and produced by Drama Republic and offers a twist on traditional Sherlock Holmes stories.

It follows a group of teenagers living on the streets of Victorian London who work for Dr Watson to solve increasingly supernatural crimes.

The focus is primarily on the group of crime-solving children, while Sherlock Holmes gets credit for their work.

In a previous interview with BBC Writersroom, Oscar-nominated writer Tom Bidwell, who developed the series, said: “Sherlock Holmes had a group of street kids he’d use to help him gather clues, so our series is what if Sherlock was a drug addict and a delinquent and the kids solve the whole case whilst he takes credit.”

This isn’t the first time that the detective series has chosen Liverpool as a filming location for the show, with Robert Downey Jnr and Jude law visiting Stanley Dock back in 2011.
