New rooftop sky bar to open in Liverpool after lockdown

A new sky bar is set to open in Liverpool city centre just in time for the lifting of the second phase of lockdown restrictions.

Preparations for The Aintree Gin Sky Bar, on the rooftop of the Shankly Hotel, are currently underway.

The venue is expected to open from April 12 and will host its first event on Sunday, April 18, with presenter Leanne Campbell.

The Liverpool gin brand, which is based near Aintree Racecourse, made the announcement about their new venue on Instagram.

In a post, Aintree Gin, wrote: “The Sky is The Limit. We are very excited to finally announce Aintree Gin will be opening The Aintree Gin Sky Bar based on the panoramic roof terrace of the exclusive @shanklyhotel on Victoria Street, Liverpool City Centre!

“Thank you to @lawkenwright and @shanklyhotel for this amazing opportunity. Please follow our age @aintree_gin_sky_bar for updates as we put the Aintree Gin stamp on this beautiful space!

“Limited tickets will be released soon for our first event Sunday 18th April hosted by @leannecampbellpower from @radiocity967 details coming soon. Let’s do this Liverpool.”

Aintree Gin officially launched back in November 2019, with flavours including a tradition London Dry, Kiwi, Grapefruit and Wild Apple.

But when the pandemic hit, they quickly pivoted their business to produce hand sanitiser, after massive shortages around the country.

They turned their distillery into a 24-hour hand sanitiser production operation plant to supply NHS departments and nursing homes, donating hundreds of bottles to Aintree, Broadgreen, The Royal and Women’s hospitals.

They also provided sanitiser spray refill dispensers in Asda in Aintree.

Later, Aintree Gin gave free drinks to couples getting married during the pandemic too.

The sky bar is due to open from April 12 when the government plans to lift restrictions on pubs and bars which will be allowed to serve people outdoors only.
