Mum shamed after she shares £1 meal she made for her kids

A mum was shamed after sharing a photo of the “healthy” meal she made for her two children to Facebook.

The unnamed mum shared a photo of two plates of sausages, mash and tinned spaghetti which she served up to her children, aged eight and 14.

The meal was shared on the Feeding a Family on £1 a day page, in what seemed to be an attempt to show solidarity to fellow mums who struggle to get their kids to eat vegetables.

She captioned the photo: “Kids tea they don’t always need veg to be healthy portions for a 14 and 8-year-old.”

But the mum was shot down in flames from some who couldn’t wait to ridicule her choice of menu – reports the Daily Record.

One said: “All I see is a carb overload.”

Another said: “Children don’t need veg every sitting but that’s not a healthy balanced meal.”

Another said meals like this one were the reason people need educated on nutrition.

She said: “It’s comfort food it isn’t healthy, potato is a root vegetable that does not count as one of the five. There is nothing wrong with it but it isn’t a healthy dinner. Two out of three items on the plate are processed food (if mash is homemade if Smash then 3/3).

“It’s facts and it just shows how much food/nutrition education is still needed in UK.”

But came out in defence of the mum-of-two saying people were too quick to judge.

One said: “Surely with all that’s happened this year with Covid and job losses the main point is the children are being fed.

“Why do people care what other parents are feeding their children, it has absolutely no impact on your life or day whatsoever.”

Another said: “Full tummies is all that matters. Not everyone can afford to have balanced meals every single time. Sometimes people just need to fill up their little peoples tummies. Be kind.

“Honestly some of the judgemental people on here need to give their heads a wobble!! Two children have received a hot meal and will go to bed with full tummies!! I see nothing wrong in that.”
