A mum and grandmother says she had such a “fantastic” time at Southport Pontins, she “didn’t want to leave”.
Tracey Lister from Leeds visited the park last week, with her daughter, son and grandson.
Southport Pontins has had something of a bad reputation over the years, with a string of not-great reviews meaning the park has just a 2 out of five star rating on Tripadvisor.
Ms Lister, however, was more than impressed. She said: “Chalet was clean, the bedding was spotless. I took cleaning products because of reviews but didn’t need any. The beds were okay and clean.
“Staff are very helpful and polite, the entertainment is excellent.
“Plenty to do for kids and the only thing we had to book was swimming.
“I have booked to go again next month and I’m hoping for the same chalet.
“It is great and very friendly, everyone talks to you.”
A Pontins Southport group has been set up on Facebook.
The group is private, though a publicly viewable description says it is a “neutral group” for potential guests and holidaymakers to “ask questions or help others”.
One member of the group, who wishes to remain anonymous, told the ECHO: “This was our first time at Pontins and we were very pleased with the outcome, especially with the whole site opening the day we arrived (May 17).

“Our room was clean and immaculate, not like reviews I have previously read. The chalet came with everything we needed to make our own food and bedding and electricity was included.
“My two-year old daughter loved it. She played in the park and in the crocodile den, and there was plenty to do in the arcade.
“Staff were very helpful, helping us with things we needed and showed us where to go for tokens.
“We had a laugh with them too, and they made us feel safe with their covid regulations. This week was just what we needed after everything being closed for so long.
“I would definitely recommend it and will go again in the future.”
Another said: “”We go knowing it’s rough and ready always take all my cleaning stuff. It might seem clean when you walk in but on closer inspection everything is minging!” [sic]
Pontins owners Britannia were approached for comment but had not responded by the time of publication.
