McDonald’s announces menu change for 2023 with ‘game-changer’ burger

McDonald’s has announced a change to its menu for 2023 – and it’s good news for McPlant fans.

In 2021, McDonald’s launched its first plant-based burger option. The McPlant comes with a Beyond Meat patty layered with vegan cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles, onions, mustard and ketchup all put together in the classic sesame bun.

The McPlant has been a popular addition to the McDonald’s menu, so much so, the fast-food chain has announced a Double McPlant.

According to the Mirror, from January 4, fans of the McPlant will be able to get their hands on the Double McPlant in all UK & Ireland restaurants. Bringing double the flavour, the Double McPlant features two Beyond Meat patties, a vegan sesame bun, mustard, ketchup, the ultimate vegan sandwich sauce, fresh onion, pickles, lettuce, tomato and of course, vegan cheese.

The new burger is vegan-certified and cooked separately from other McDonald’s burgers and sandwiches, using dedicated utensils. The original McPlant, which took the chain over three years to develop, has been a hit with customers since its launch in September 2021.

And many of them took to social media to express their desire for a doubled-up version, with some even claiming it was a ‘game-changer’. One person said: “I know it’s 7am but when are @mcdonaldsuk going to allow a Double McPlant?? All I want is the option to have two patties. this is the important stuff I need addressed.”

Another fan tweeted: “I have said on many occasions that the McPlant has changed my life, but if there were to be a double McPlant? I can only imagine.”

While a third said: “Double McPlant is a game-changer. I’ve really enjoyed [the McPlant] the couple of times I’ve had it, but it’s just not big enough.” A different user added: “McDonald’s needs to do a double McPlant because one Pattie just ain’t enough.” The Double McPlant will be available from January 4 2023 for £4.89 on its own, or £6.49 as a meal.
