Birthday messages have flooded in for a man described as “the most famous man in Bootle.”
Liverpool FC superfan David Lyons received a moving message from Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher on Saturday, to mark his 40th birthday.
The Asda worker was sat surrounded by his friends and family as he listened to the message with a huge grin on his face.
The special moment was captured on camera by David’s brother Ian, in a video that has been shared hundreds of times.
Dozens of birthday messages flooded in from ECHO readers after they watched the video on Saturday.
Many of them said they recognised David from Asda, while others knew him from their school days.
Pippa Cherry said: “Absolutely buzzing for him! He is a lovely man. Always willing to help. Deserves all the happiness in the world.”
Donna Fox said: “Could not have happened to a nicer fella. Much more famous than Carra. Happy 40th Birthday David love from all of us.”
T.J. Mcinerney said: “Carra is true Scouse, a Liverpool lad, PS. Happy 40th Bud!”
Nikki Metcalfe said: “I see David every time I go the Asda, always smiling and having a laugh with the black cab drivers! Happy 40th birthday David.”

Sarah Rimmer added: “Happy birthday David I remember you from school and the Asda.”
The 40-year-old hit the headlines last year, when Virgil Van Dijk surprised him in an Asda car park.
In the video message, Carragher said: “This is a Happy Birthday message for the most famous man in Bootle.
“The legend that runs the Asda, everybody knows this fella.
“I’m just sorry I can’t be there mate I’ve had another 40th would you believe in town.

During the message Carragher jokes that he’s been replaced by Virgil Van Dijk as David’s favourite centre-back.
He added: “But one thing I have got a problem is, is that I will never be the most famous man in Bootle, because that will always be taken.”

David’s family and friends can be heard laughing and cheering in the footage which was shared on Twitter by his brother Ian.
In the post which has been liked by over 500 people, Ian said: “Thank you to @Carra23 and @jseddo8 for this 40th Birthday message for my brother. Wow! #imnotcryingyouare.”
