HMV confirms opening of big new store in Liverpool city centre

Iconic retailer HMV has confirmed that it will open a new store in Liverpool city centre.

The much-loved brand suddenly closed the doors to its Liverpool ONE site earlier this month, leaving shoppers wondering when they would get their next HMV fix.

The retailer will open the doors to a new site in Williamson Square later this month, joining more than 100 other businesses within St Johns Shopping Centre, from local retailers to national brands like JD Sports and Matalan.

HMV’s new store will sit next to Matalan, just a stone’s throw from the Liverpool FC store.

The retailer is the latest of several new stores to join St Johns Shopping Centre, following the arrival of Boom Battle Bar, American Candy Empire and VR Liverpool in April 2021.

Phil Halliday, managing director of HMV, said: “We are delighted to be opening a new store in St Johns this July. There has been an HMV in Liverpool for many decades and we have always enjoyed sharing our enthusiasm for music, film and popular culture with the city’s community.

“As we celebrate our 100th anniversary this year, we are thrilled to be launching an even bigger and better store, and our team are looking forward to opening our doors and welcoming in St Johns’ customers very soon.”

Neil Ashcroft, centre manager at St Johns Liverpool, said: “HMV is an iconic and enduring brand, and we are delighted to have them joining us in St Johns this July.

“St Johns has been an important part of the community for over 50 years and the arrival of HMV in the centre is a real cause for celebration. We’re thrilled to have our shoppers back and we’re even more delighted to be bringing them new, exciting stores for 2021.”

HMV will open its doors in Williamson Square on Tuesday, July 20.
