Shops across Merseyside will be able to reopen next week when the lockdown comes to an end on December 2.
Over the last few weeks – and what is traditionally one of the busiest times of years for retail – non-essential shops have been forced to close to help stop the spread of coronavirus.
But this week Prime Minister Boris Johnson confirmed stores can reopen again in the run up to Christmas.
However, it’s been a tough time for the region’s independent retailers, who have lost out on much-needed trade at what is usually a lucrative time. That’s why we’re calling on readers to support them with our Order Local campaign.
Of course we know money is tight for everyone, but we’re urging those of you who able to, to spend some of your Christmas money with local traders this year.
And although shops are reopening, we understand that many people will still prefer to do most of their shopping online this year, in order to stay at home. That’s why we’ve teamed up with our sister site InYourArea and ReachPLC titles to create a search tool where you can find local shops offering delivery and click-and-collect services on your doorstep.
All you have to do is enter your postcode below.
You can also help spread the word by sharing a picture of what you buy on InYourArea and on social media with the hashtag #OrderLocal.
The campaign is being backed by the British Independent Retailers Association (BIRA).
Andrew Goodacre, Bira CEO, said: “We are delighted to be working with the Liverpool ECHO on this important campaign to bring shoppers back to the shops. This is such an essential time of the year for retail and this idea will be thoroughly welcomed by all independent retailers and shoppers.”
