
A masked robber burst into a Subway branch this morning and pointed a handgun at terrified staff.
The raid happened shortly before 10.23am at the takeaway in Hawthorne Road, Litherland.
Merseyside Police deployed armed response officers to the scene and conducted a search but the robber had fled.
No-one was injured in the incident and the weapon was not fired but the gunman managed to escape with a small quantity of cash.

A spokesman for the force said: “We received reports a male had entered the building in possession of a black handgun and demanded cash.
“The male is described as white, of slim build, with long, wavy hair and dressed in black and wearing a black face covering.
“He left in receipt of a limited amount of cash and left the scene on a pedal bike.”
The store is now closed after forensic investigators examined the scene.
